Enrollment urgency is the oldest helpdesk pretext wearing a new word. The objective is still a session token, and the tell is still Graph.
Microsoft tracked Storm-3121 and Storm-3032 running passkey-themed helpdesk calls since May 2026. The passkey narrative is a pretext that routes victims into AiTM and device-code flows — and the detection lives in what happens after the token lands, not in the lure.

Microsoft's DCU disrupted EvilTokens on September 22, 2026 — a $1,500 device-code phishing platform tied to 12,000 compromised inboxes across 10,000 organisations. The operator is gone. The flow it abused is unchanged, and the serverless infrastructure pattern is the part that outlives the brand.

Revised October 2026. Our April assessment held that passkey fallback and recovery workflows would become attacker targets. Six months of research confirmed it and added something we did not anticipate: attacks against synced passkey key material itself.

Reverse-proxy phishing kits commoditized session-token theft over the last two years. The kit market now resembles SaaS, and that has implications for how defenders track operators.

A June 2026 wave of AWS console phishing sites relayed sign-in and MFA to the real AWS in real time, capturing session material from a curated list of engineers. AiTM has moved past Microsoft identity, and the detection has to move with it.

Google's 2026 public-sector M-Trends brief says vishing reached 11 percent of global infections, sharpening the case for stronger help-desk recovery and device-enrollment controls.

Arctic Wolf's June 2 follow-up describes the Kali365 operator expanding well beyond Microsoft 365: Okta SSO, Xerox DocuShare, AWS-style endpoints, and a Russian-language cluster including MAX Messenger account takeover via real SMS OTPs. Proofpoint's research places the kit inside a broader cluster of AI-generated device-code lookalikes.

Mailbox rules, OAuth grants, replayed sessions, RMM agents, and downstream account changes are not the aftermath of an intrusion — they are the point. A field guide to the persistence layer most response playbooks still treat as cleanup.

Runtimes, platforms, and brands rotate every quarter. The six handoffs that move a victim from manufactured urgency to durable persistence have barely changed in five years, and they are what defenders can actually build for.
